The nova scenario is a very remote possibility. However, if it were to happen, there would be plenty of advance warning. It is the generally unanimous scientific opinion that our sun is good for many more billions of years.

Most predictions and opinions concerning 2012 are based on or rooted in astronomical occurrences.

There are three possible outcomes:

1. Something good happens on 12.21.12 — There is absolutely no astronomical or other scientific basis for this belief. There are no known logical premises for this belief. Astronomical events are not known for happy endings. The belief that something good will happen is based solely on spiritualism, faith, and/or innate optimism. This belief is not necessarily a bad thing; we don’t know everything; the probability is not zero.

2. Nothing happens on 12.21.12 — This is the most likely scenario. Just because an unusual astronomical event occurs doesn’t mean that something bad will happen. Usually, relative to us, it’s a non-event.

3. Something bad happens on 12.21.12 — This belief is in the realm of possibility. There may even be some scientific basis and logic for it. Sooner or later our solar system is going to wander someplace where we don’t want it to go; it’s just a matter of when. After all, dark/anti-matter have to be somewhere; areas at/near the galactic equatorial plane are as good a place as any. Wherever the stuff is, we have pretty much ascertained that we want nothing to do with it. There are also magnetic, gravitational, and other phenomena that could temporarily affect our sun. The probability is not zero.

Maybe God / karma / Higher Power / fate / destiny / synchronicity exists; maybe not.

The fatal flaw of logic is it presupposes awareness of all relevant premises. This is seldom the case. The best one can hope for is a favorable probability.
